Adults & Educators

You do not have to be a pilot to serve

Civil Air Patrol thrives because of members from every background — educators, electricians, clergy, lawyers, truck drivers, retail workers, and retirees.

While CAP is widely recognized for its aviation missions, adult members contribute far beyond the cockpit. Fewer than one-fifth of CAP’s adult volunteers are pilots or aircrew.

How adult members serve

Adult members support day-to-day squadron operations such as administration, logistics, finance, and equipment management. They also play vital roles in emergency services — assisting with communications, transporting supplies, conducting aerial or ground photography, and distributing water and food during disasters.

With more than 23,000 youth in the Cadet Program nationwide, adult volunteers are essential mentors and leaders. CAP is an excellent opportunity for anyone who wants to make a positive impact on young people and their community.

Emergency Services

Ready when the community needs it

The Booster Club helps the squadron maintain readiness by funding emergency supplies, training resources, and community-preparedness initiatives — so adult members can serve effectively when it counts.

Educator Membership

Aerospace Education Members

Educators can join Civil Air Patrol as Aerospace Education Members, gaining access to a wide range of free aerospace and STEM resources. CAP provides K–12 curriculum materials, hands-on STEM Kits, and professional development opportunities designed for classrooms, homeschools, museums, libraries, and youth organizations.

One of the most unique benefits is the chance to participate in a teacher orientation flight aboard a CAP Cessna aircraft, offering educators firsthand insight into aviation to bring back to their students. This membership category is ideal for anyone committed to inspiring the next generation through aerospace and STEM education.
